Dairy products have comprised an integral part of the human nutrition for years. Archaeological finds, in combination with anthropological data show intense raising of dairy animals in Ireland 6,000 years ago, traces from milk fat in vessels found in Finland and dated over 4,500 ago, as well as traces of milk protein from various dairy animals on fossilized teeth of human that lived in the Bronze Age, namely about 3,000 BC.
They were also widespread in ancient Greece as well. Butter was also known and very widespread in the nutrition of the residents of Thrace, whom they often called “butter-eaters”. Cheese was a basic element of the nutrition of ancient Greeks, which was produced either from goat’s or from sheep’s cheese.
